How often do you have sex — daily, every alternate day or
only during weekends? Your answer could provide a clue about your heart
health. According to a study published in the American Journal of Cardiology (1) men who had sex twice a week are less prone to a heart disease as compared to the ones who didn’t. And hence, to lower your risk of suffering from cardiovascular disease , men should have an active sexual life.
During orgasm, the hormone oxytocin is stimulated, that in turn has a
direct effect on lowering your blood pressure, a key risk factor of
heart disease. Also, when a person is stressed, the hormones released
constrict the blood vessels and also increase your risk of heart attack .
However, with sex your stress levels tend to decrease, thereby lowering
your risk of heart disease and heart attack. Also, sexual activity
helps you to lose weight (as it known to be a form of exercise) and also
induces sleep, all of which contribute towards a healthy heart.
A study in Biological psychology (2) revealed that people involved in sexual intercourse specifically (this doesn’t include masturbation) lowered systolic blood pressure and thus, lower your chances of suffering from heart disease. Hence, having sex twice a day not only helps your heart to stay fit and healthy but also provides you numerous health benefits .
